YMCA Potters Place Gloucester
PSK Architect Supports the Future Growth of Gloucestershire YMCA at Potter’s Place, Gloucester
At PSK Architect, we believe great architecture has the power to transform communities as much as buildings. That’s why we’re delighted to be working with Gloucestershire YMCA on proposals to expand the supported accommodation facilities at Potter’s Place in Gloucester, helping the charity continue its vital work supporting people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.
Our latest scheme has been carefully designed to increase the centre’s capacity while enhancing the facilities available for both residents and staff, ensuring Potter’s Place can continue to provide a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for those who need it most.
Extending Potter’s Place to Meet Growing Demand
PSK Architect has prepared a comprehensive extension scheme for Potter’s Place that will provide:
- Four additional supported accommodation bedrooms
- Modern ensuite facilities for each new bedroom
- New office accommodation for staff
- A dedicated meeting room
- Improved staff welfare facilities, including a new kitchen
Every element of the design has been developed to complement the existing building while creating practical, flexible spaces that support both residents and the dedicated team working within the centre every day.
As architects, we understand that projects like this require much more than simply adding floor space. The design must create an environment that promotes dignity, privacy and wellbeing while allowing staff to effectively support residents through often challenging circumstances.
About Potter’s Place
Potter’s Place opened in December 2019 and is a 48-bed emergency housing project located in the heart of Gloucester. Operated by Gloucestershire YMCA, the centre provides supported accommodation for individuals and families facing homelessness.
The accommodation currently includes 41 rooms for single people, alongside seven rooms designed specifically for pregnant women and families.
The experienced team at Potter’s Place work tirelessly to help residents find suitable long-term accommodation and move towards greater independence. By working closely with a wide range of local partners, they support residents in achieving positive outcomes and reducing the risk of future homelessness.
The nature of emergency accommodation means the environment is often fast-paced, with residents regularly moving into and out of the building. Many individuals arrive with complex support needs, requiring compassionate, person-centred care and strong collaboration between staff and external agencies.

Designing Spaces That Support People
Projects within the supported housing sector demand thoughtful architectural design. Every decision, from room layouts and circulation to staff facilities and communal spaces, contributes to creating an environment where people feel safe, respected and supported.
The additional ensuite bedrooms will provide greater privacy and comfort for future residents, while the expanded staff facilities will enable the YMCA team to continue delivering the high-quality support that makes such a positive difference within the community.
Providing dedicated meeting space also allows staff to work more effectively with residents, partner organisations and support services, helping individuals access the assistance they need to rebuild their lives.

We look forward to seeing the scheme progress and helping Gloucestershire YMCA continue its outstanding work providing supported accommodation and hope for people across Gloucester.
